SRF Tagesschau – Swiss Banking Secrecy Negotiations in the Context of EU Transparency Efforts

This 2013 SRF broadcast covers growing post-2008 EU pressure on Switzerland to adopt the OECD push for a global “automatic exchange of information” (AEOI) standard, primarily to close loopholes and end the era of banking secrecy enabling tax evasion. Dr. Thomas Borer is interviewed in relation to this, emphasising the importance of negotiating how such a standard will be upheld, and suggesting that maintaining banking secrecy for those registered in Switzerland while disbanding it for others might be a worthwhile compromise.
