At the height of the dispute over the 2012 Swiss-German tax agreement, in the very last week of lobbying before the Bundesrat vote which is expected to overturn it, Thomas Borer makes an appearance on the SF’s Schawinski show for a wide-ranging and contentious interview. Borer defends his lobbying role and rejects the idea that he has any particular ‘affinity’ for Russia. He discusses the strained diplomatic state of affairs between Switzerland and Germany and critically observes the highly ideological stance of the SDP and Greens, arguing that it makes negotiation difficult. Still, he advocates a strong shift in the way in which Switzerland engages Germany diplomatically, advocating a more comprehensively positive relationship.
