Thomas Borer Calls Swedish Gripen Lobbying a Communications Misstep
In a 2014 interview with the Tages Anzeiger, former Swiss ambassador Thomas Borer described the Swedish ambassador’s aggressive lobbying for the Gripen fighter jet as a “communications nightmare”. Publicly criticising politicians, he stressed, is an absolute “no-go – but he did it anyway”. Borer added that, in such a situation, he would have taken a different, more diplomatic approach to representing his country’s interests.
